Andrea Steele BA, MSc, RVT (ECC)

Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Specialized Honours Zoology from the University of Guelph, (1994). She then went on to complete the Veterinary Technician Diploma at the Ridgetown College Campus, University of Guelph (1998). Finally, Andrea received her Master’s degree in Veterinary Clinical Studies, with a focus on nosocomial infections in the ICU, in 2012. Andrea has been an ICU technician at the Ontario Veterinary College Teaching Hospital since 1998, and now supervises the area. She achieved Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care (VTS(ECC)) certification in 2003, becoming a member of the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians (AVECCT). Andrea is a Past-President of AVECCT and is now Executive Secretary. Andrea is an experienced lecturer, author, and peer-reviewer and in 2015 was co-Editor and contributing author of the book Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care for Veterinary Technicians (Battaglia and Steele), and in 2018, Anesthesia and Analgesia of the Critically Ill Dog and Cat (Mathews, Sinclair, Steele, and Grubb). Andrea has received several awards for her speaking and contributions to organizations including; 2013 the OAVT Outstanding Contributions Award, the 2014 Western Veterinary Conference Technician Educator of the Year, and most recently, the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Specialty Technician of the Year, for 2015.
