Deputy Director of Research, US Army Institute of Surgical Research

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Tom Edwards is the former Deputy Director of Research at the US Army's Institute of Surgical Research - the Department of Defense's leader in Combat Casualty Care research. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his DVM degree from the University of Georgia. He subsequently undertook a rotating internship at the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Center. After several assignments to include a deployment with the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq, he returned to the University of Georgia to pursue a combined Masters degree and an Emergency & Critical Care Residency. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. His research interests include trauma, coagulation, emergency surgery and transfusion medicine. He is currently the ER Service Head at BluePearl Veterinary Specialists in San Antonio, TX and is also a research fellow at the US Amy Institute of Surgical Research.
